  • Chapter 10: Resources Beyond the Book

Chapter Introduction

At some point, as you make your way through the foreclosure process, you’re going to want help from a human being. Someone who knows the territory—a lawyer who’s familiar with what local judges will approve or a real estate agent who can tell you how quickly your house will likely sell—can be an invaluable guide. This chapter provides a little guidance about who can help you, where to find them, and how to choose someone who will best suit your needs.

But sometimes you need help from other sources, perhaps because you can’t afford an expert’s fee, you don’t like the answer you get, or you would rather get on top of the information yourself. So I’ll also steer you to some books and websites that can provide information and guidance.

Finally, this chapter introduces some techniques for finding the foreclosure-related laws listed on your state’s page in the appendix. Virtually all of these laws can be accessed online, in a law library, and quite often in a general public library.
